Assisting each patient to regain the health, happiness, and vitality desired and deserved is the overriding mission which guides the care which Dr. Gersh provides. Her career has evolved over the years she has practiced, into one in which she utilizes the most cutting-edged and high tech diagnostic testing as needed, while incorporating a unique blending of all science based therapies-from the herbal to the surgical-to assist in the healing process. Adept in all areas of women’s health, additionally, Dr. Gersh has an exceptional expertise in the area of women’s hormones across all ages, addressing the negative impact which pharmaceuticals, environmental toxins, stress, and aging impart.
Dr. Gersh is one of small handful of Board Certified OB/GYNs who have graduated from the prestigious Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine. She recognized the underlying fallacy of conventional medicine, which is that we humans have the capability to micromanage the incredible complexity of a human being. Although pharmaceuticals can be lifesaving, they have serious side effect potential. Dr. Gersh’s goal is to use pharmaceuticals when truly needed, while working in collaboration with the patient to address the root causes of the problem.
Recognizing that no one doctor has all the medical skills needed in all cases, she has teamed closely with Dr. Dayna Kowata, a highly respected and experienced naturopathic doctor, creating a dynamic synergy rarely, if ever, seen in medical practice.
Dr. Gersh has received her education and training at the most prestigious institutions. Her undergraduate degree was obtained at Princeton University, where she majored in History and graduated in only three years, and her medical degree came from the University of Southern California, where she was recognized as the most accomplished woman medical student and was awarded entry into the prestigious medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha.
Subsequent to medical school, Dr. Gersh did her residency at the renowned program at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles, where she won the Creog Award annually, recognizing her as the highest scoring resident on the standardized tests all residents across the nation take. Since founding the Women’s Medical Group of Irvine, which was transformed years later into the current Integrative Medical Group of Irvine, Dr. Gersh has continued to gather numerous awards. She has received the Orange County Medical Association’s Physician of Excellence Award for the past dozen years, and the SuperDoctor of Southern California Award several times as well, most recently in 2014 and 2015. She has been honored with the Outstanding Faculty Award by the OB/GYN department at the University of Southern California, where she taught residents surgery as an attending staff and Assistant Clinical Professor for more than 12 years. Dr. Gersh has been involved in other philanthropic work, providing surgery to the uninsured indigent of Orange County, and being awarded the honor of being recognized as the outstanding volunteer surgeon.
Dr. Gersh has spent her entire career both as educator and student. She has never stopped learning and striving to gain more expertise in all areas of medicine. She sees the patient as a whole being, never as some isolated organs, and so, to properly treat her patients, she has believed that continual learning is a must. To that end, she attends innumerable conferences each year, and is often a speaker at them as well. Dr. Gersh is now one of the most sought after lecturers on topics of women’s health and speaks around the nation at major medical conferences, as well as doing webinars, webcasts, and podcasts. She also writes a series of monthly articles on the topic of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome which is read by women around the globe.
Dr. Gersh is a dedicated physician, committed to excellence in all respects, who always puts the interests of her patients above all else and has looked to the safest and most efficacious therapies to guide her patients on their paths back to wellness.
On a personal note, Dr. Gersh is a lover of children, with four wonderful, accomplished offspring and a few gorgeous grandchildren as well. Her husband, Bob, is her lifelong companion and the very fit and fantastic fitness specialist at the practice. Dr. Gersh loves adventure travel, reading, writing and dining with friends.
