Physician Assistants are uniquely trained in team-based healthcare, and work both independently and collaboratively to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes for patients. In the integrative health care setting, this team-based technique can truly be put into practice, as it utilizes all aspects of functional diagnostics, diet and nutrition management, IV therapies, and the combination of both standard western therapies and alternative therapies to develop customized treatment plans.
As a practicing Integrative PA, Tiffany focuses on nutrition first and foremost, because she believes, “what we put in our bodies becomes our bodies.” By focusing on diet, smart supplementation, and addressing lifestyle management, many of the root causes of patient’s ailments can be uncovered and addressed, reserving more aggressive pharmaceutical therapies for when their benefits truly outweigh any risks of therapy.
Tiffany grew up in Queens, New York before relocating to California in 2007. When she is not studying and practicing medicine she is engaging in her own self-care habits, which include cooking healthy foods at home, walking through all the amazing nature California has to offer, and spending time with her “wolf pack,” her boyfriend, and their three dogs (two Pit-bull rescues named Luke and Babette, and a little Shih Tzu named Moses). Tiffany also spends her free time practicing yoga, Pilates, writing, and studying all things interior design, and, of course, medicine.
Tiffany received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University in New York, and, immediately upon graduating, began working in the healthcare industry in pharmaceutical sales.
In this role, she spent ten years behind the scenes with doctors and their patients in both private offices and large institutions, which has provided her a unique understanding of key hurdles doctors and patients encounter in modern medicine, including the challenges patients face obtaining the best available treatments on limited budgets.
Tiffany quickly realized what doctors needed more of were not expensive drugs to treat the same diseases, but more time to really listen to their patients, and fewer restrictions when treating them.
Tiffany personally struggled for years with PMDD, and issues related to hormonal imbalances, and was met with limited options for relief from Western medicine. After exploring many alternative methods of treatment, including naturopathic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, and homeopathy, she finally found relief where western medicine could not provide it.
This inspired her to pursue a career change from the business side of healthcare in pharmaceuticals to the patient care side by route of pursuing her Master’s in Physician Assistant (PA) Sciences from the only integrative health care program for PA’s at Southern California University of Health Sciences in Whittier, CA.
Tiffany also obtained her yoga teacher training in 2011 as an RYT 200, and has taught Vinyasa yoga at several studios in San Diego and for her fellow classmates while studying to be a PA.
Yogic philosophy is a huge part of Tiffany’s passion for alternative health care in that the mind-body connection is an essential barometer for stress, and should be addressed along with all of the physical symptoms patients experience.
Tiffany believes the guiding philosophies around yoga can be applied to all aspects of life by living more present in the moment, reducing stress through pranayama (active breathing), practicing mindfulness in our actions, and feeling more connected within our bodies, to other beings, and to the environments around us.
Tiffany incorporates these philosophies in her approach to patient care by including things like breathwork, meditation, grounding practices, and daily self-care practices into her individualized treatment planning.
Tiffany feels the most rewarding part of her job is empowering her patients to color outside of the lines of the traditional health care system by teaching them all of their available options to living healthier, more present lives.
Her experiences in both the traditional western health care system and with complementary alternative medicine techniques has enabled Tiffany to have a deep understanding of many of the limitations in treatment options patients face on a daily basis.
Tiffany’s goal is to support her patients in taking their health care into their own hands, in listening to and observing the signals coming from their bodies, and in becoming their own health champions with the support of an integrative team to help guide them on their individualized journey through life, and towards their healthiest, and most vibrant selves.
