Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability. Naturopathic
doctors (NDs) utilize diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and cutting edge natural therapies to enhance their
patients’ ability to ward off and combat disease. NDs view the patient as a complex, interrelated system (a whole person), not as a clogged artery or a tumor. They design comprehensive treatment plans. Those plans blend
the best of modern medical science and traditional natural medical approaches, treating not only the disease
symptoms, but also restoring health.
Naturopathic physicians base their practice on six timeless principles founded on medical tradition and
scientific evidence.
-
Encourage the natural healing powers of nature. Our bodies have a powerful, innate instinct for
self-healing. By discovering and removing the barriers to this self-healing—such as poor diet or
unhealthy habits—naturopathic physicians can increase the powers of self-healing. -
Discover and treat the causes of disease. Naturopathic physicians understand that symptoms
will only return unless the root illness is addressed. They seek to find and treat the cause of these
symptoms rather than work to cover-up symptoms. -
Begin with the safest, most efficacious treatments and, above all else, do no harm. Three precepts
have been established to ensure patients’ safety: -
Use low-risk procedures and healing compounds—such as dietary supplements, herbal
extracts and homeopathy. Choose treatments with few or no side effects. -
When possible, do not suppress symptoms, as they are the body’s efforts to self-heal. Fever
is an example. When a bacterial infection occurs, fever creates an inhospitable environment
for the harmful bacteria, increasing the body’s ability to destroy it. Of course, the naturopathic
physician is careful to not let the fever become dangerously high. -
Customize each diagnosis and treatment plan. We are all different in many ways and the
naturopathic physicians respect those differences. -
Educate patients. Naturopathic doctors are educators and healers. They teach their patients how
best to eat, exercise, relax and nurture themselves physically and emotionally. Patients are encouraged
to take responsibility for their own health while working closely with the ND. -
Treat the whole person. Everyone has an individual physical, mental, emotional, genetic,
environmental, social, sexual and spiritual makeup which affects one’s health. Each medical situation
results in a carefully designed treatment plan, tailored to the uniqueness of the individual. -
Prevent illness. Proactive medicine saves emotional and physical pain, misery, and even lives.
Naturopathic physicians evaluate risk factors, heredity and vulnerability to disease. They work with
patients to achieve greater wellness, reducing the need for treatment in the future.
About Naturopathic Medicine
Who are NDs?
Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.s) are holistic health care providers clinically trained and board certified to provide primary care. The scope of primary care for naturopaths is actually broader than for conventionally trained medical doctors, osteopaths, physician’s assistants, and nurse practitioners because of the emphasis on wellness and prevention that is central to naturopathic philosophy. Because of this emphasis, naturopathic doctors are not only of service to clients who are sick or in need of general medical screening, but also, to healthy individuals interested in maintaining and/or improving their health status.
Naturopathic doctors receive training in the basic medical sciences and clinical medical sciences, including both conventional, as well as holistic and functional diagnostics. The naturopathic modalities available at IMGI include clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, hormone balancing for men and women, general medicine for men and women, including complex medical problems, homeopathy, pharmacology, hydrotherapy, counseling, and IV therapy.
Our Services
Our naturopathic doctors employ the full scope of naturopathic modalities as indicated for each individual patient with primary emphasis on nutrition, IV therapy, preventive lifestyle, and wellness.
Referrals are made, when necessary, to colleagues within the naturopathic community, as well as to other health care providers, including Chinese medicine practitioners, osteopaths, chiropractors, and MD specialists. Products offered or recommended by us are researched to provide patients with the best prices available without compromising quality or medical efficacy.
Special Services within Naturopathy
Biotherapeutic Drainage
Biotherapeutic drainage uses combined homeopathic remedies, known as UNDA numbers or PEKANA, to enhance the innate ability of the body to eliminate toxins that have been accumulated internally. These toxins can cause disharmony of the systems, resulting in illness. This treatment promotes the cleansing and rebalancing of internal body systems at the cellular level as well as the functional restoration of each organ. These remedies can be used both for chronic and acute conditions and are safe to be used with other therapies, including pharmaceutical medications.
Gemmotherapy
Gemmotherapy is a form of phytotherapy that uses extracts made from the buds and young shoots and young rootlets of the plants. These embryonic tissue extracts contain a concentration of the plants’ vital energy, offering more active pharmacological activity and more precise therapeutic effects. Gemmotherapy can be used effectively to enhance health and healing in a very deep way and particularly effective for drainage due to their detoxifying actions on the body as well as tissue regeneration/ rejuvenation.
Homeopathy
Homeopathy uses remedies made from ultra-dilute “micro” doses of natural substances as it means that any active substance that is capable of causing a set of symptoms in a healthy person when administered in high doses can eliminate similar symptoms in a sick person if it is used in a ultra low dosage – so called the “Law of Similars.” It can be used for simple conditions but also beneficial for more chronic conditions. Homeopathic remedies cause very little side effects and are safe to be taken with conventional medications without interference.
Flower Essence Therapy
Flower essences are subtle liquid extracts, which are used to address profound issues of emotional well-being, soul development, and mind-body health. It is prepared in a highly dilute form from a physical point of view, but has subtle power as potentized substances, embodying the specific energetic patterns of each flower. Recently, it has been gaining worldwide professional recognition for their significant contribution to holistic health and wellness programs.
